This Week's Quote:

“The man of ambition thinks to find his good in the operations of others; the man of pleasure in hios own sensations; but the man of understanding in his own actions.”

Hey! We reached the half century! (issue #50)

1. The Number One Anti-Oxidant

[notes from my up-coming report "Anti-Aging: Out Of The Box"]

Forget Noni juice, Acai berry and all the ORAC lies and hype: the master anti-oxidant, and the original star, has always been superoxide dismutase (SOD). It has been called the "master guardian". Compared to vitamin C, this nutrient is 3,500 times stronger. [Colman J. “Life Span-Increasing Effects of Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD).” LEM. Winter 2005/2006.]

In aging studies, researchers discovered mammals that produce the highest levels of SOD have the longest life spans. And according to Cutler when they genetically engineered fruit flies to have double the amount of this nutrient, the fruit flies lived twice as long. [Cutler RG. “Antioxidants and longevity of mammalian species.” Basic Life Sci. 1985;35:15-73. And Cutler RG. “Antioxidants and aging.” Am J Clin Nutr. 1991 Jan;53(1 Suppl):373S-9S.

SOD is so vital, production starts when you’re in the womb. In one study, genetically engineered mice whose bodies couldn’t make their own SOD died in just days from massive free radical damage [Li, et al. “Cardiomyopathy and neonatal lethality in mutant mice lacking manganese superoxide dismutase,” Nature Genetics. 1995. 11:376-381].

That’s how important antioxidants are!

Unfortunately, levels drop off as we age, leading to a build-up of free radicals. [Lishnevskaia VL. “The role of free radical oxidation in aging.” Adv Gerontol. 2004;13:52-7]

Moreover, native levels of SOD vary by as much as 50% from person to person, depending on genetic and other factors [Ueda K, et al. “Levels of SOD in Japanese people.” Acta Med Okayama. 1978 Dec;(6):393-7]. That may be why some people age quickly and why others live to a ripe old age without any problems.

You should be concerned about how much SOD is in your body. It would be great if we could supplement it but haven’t been able to. Till now…

A patent has been passed which claims to have solved the problem of getting SOD absorbed by the oral route, without being destroyed by the digestive process (US Patent 6 04 5809).

The new process wraps SOD in a protective coating, which enables it to pass through your digestive tract without being damaged.

The new patented, absorbable form of SOD is available in Dr. Al Sear’s antioxidant formula RES-3, along with 2 other well-recognized anti-oxidants that make it pretty formidable protection.

Try some! I don't sell it but you can order it here:

2. Enough To Put You Off Chicken For Life?

Did you see the movie "Food, Inc."? If so, very likely it will be a month before you can stomach food from conventional vendors in the "Food, Inc. System".

It was sickening see chickens raised in such poor conditions they had broken legs and couldn't walk. Worse than that, when they were rounded up for slaughter, illegal immigrant Mexican workers were kicking them around like a soccer ball.

My concern is not just for the welfare of the animals, though God knows, that's a matter of painful conscience. But also I am appalled by the nutritional impact on humans, raising "food" in this perverted and technical manner.

The trouble is that "Food Inc." has a total stranglehold here. I didn't realize that in this country, which laughably calles itself "the land of the free", it is illegal in certain states to criticize the food industry or the manufacturers. It's even illegal to take photographs of animals being reared (simply because the sight of it is so horrific, they would lose customers).

You can go to JAIL for complaining about the mass slaughter of humans that is the business of "Food Inc." (no, I did not mean to write mass slaughter of animals).

If you don't know what I am talking about or have never heard of "Food Inc.", go here on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eKYyD14d_0

3. Environment, Environment, Environment...

I've been preaching this for almost 4 decades now. Almost ALL disease is environment-based. Think about it: all bacteria, parasites and viruses are environment. Most chronic degeneration is turning out to be inflammatory factors loose in the body. Food, drink, chemical and airborne allergens are running rampant today.

Genes are very little to do with anything, except in some part it codes the way you stand up to environmental illnesses.

And if you have read my book Virtual Medicine you will know that everything is energy anyway, which is ALSO an environmental factor-- very much so!

Here's an incredible study finding that backs up everything I've said about the energetic influence of disease and environmental triggers (and out with the genes idea). It seems that spouses of patients needing dialysis because of kidney damage may also end up with kidney damage. This influence is at least as strong as the genes, because spouses get just as much kidney disease as blood relations (genetically related).

The shared lifestyles are obviously important factors in this. But so too is the energetic influence.

"We were surprised to find that the risk of developing chronic kidney disease for spouses of hemodialysis patients is just about as high as it is for blood relatives of these patients," Dr. Hung-Chun Chen, in the nephrology division at Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital in Taiwan, said in a National Kidney Foundation news release.

The researchers looked at the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in 95 spouses and 196 first- and second-degree relatives of 178 dialysis patients. They found that chronic kidney disease and related diabetes was much more common among the spouses and relatives of the patients than in a control group of people who weren't married or related to dialysis patients.

Diabetes, I have known for forty years or more, is primarily an inflammatory foods phenomenon (including, but not limited to, food allergy). So sharing a lousy diet is the obvious risk factor there.

Clearly, being in the "field" or energetic aura of a kidney patient is dangerous! This reminded me at once of the experiments of Weston Price which I reported in Virtual Medicine, which is that teeth transplanted from rabbits with chronic disease, such as cancer or kidney disease, would carry the "signal" or imprint of that disease, so the recipient rabbit got exactly the same disease. Sort of radio teeth transmissions of pathology. Absolutely fascinating.

But I think it's strange and unaccountable that spouses of dialysis patients should have an above average interest in herbal remedies. Why, can anybody suggest any reason?

The study is published in the May 2010 issue of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases.

4. US Blood Pressure Machines Deliberately Faked High Readings?

I received this email from a friendly correspondent in Germany. It raises a provocative question and I think we should discuss this. Let's get over to my blog and debate it: see if anybody else has been having similar problems or maybe has insight into deliberate faking. Go here and, if you know something, post a comment on this topic: alternative-doctor blog

"Dear Dr. Keith,

I have been a patient at a small cancer hospital in Germany for four of the last seven months. In Germany they have checked my BP practically every day and it is nearly always normal, with the diastolic pressure between 80-90 mmHg.

However, during this same seven month period, at times when I was not in Germany, and have had my BP checked by an American physician or dentist office they have nearly always found the diastolic pressure between 90-100, or some ten points higher than the Germans.

I have come to suspect that the US sphygmomanometers are intentionally mis-calibrated in order to sell blood pressure drugs. Do you have any thoughts on this?"

5. Anti-Aging Products I Take Myself

People often seek advice indirectly, by asking what health products I use. Well, here's one: it's called "Prime" and comes from a company called Univera. It's been formulated by a colleague I respect very much, Stephen Cherniske MS. He's chief scientist for Univera.

Prime is one of the best anti-aging products I know. It combines good stuff like N-acetyl-cysteine, acetyl-L-carnitine and alpha lipoic acid (great glutathione precursors), with key vitamins and phosphtidyl choline (great to preserve brain tissues); aloe vera (the ultimate healer); Chrysin (good for men and prostate); MaxCell, a proprietary blend from Univera; BioResponse DIM Complex (also proprietary); and, last but not least, DHEA and 7-Keto DHEA at just the right doses. Too much DHEA, I find, gives women a greasy skin and spots; 15 mgs is just right.

If you want to try it, the company has an unbeatable money-back guarantee, for up to 90 days (you must keep the packaging etc). Email Viv at: admin***@***informed-wellness.com You need to cut out all the asterisks; they are there because of spam crawlers that trawl the Internet looking for email addresses to harvest.

Viv will tell you how to order. She wouldn't mind a phone call even: 760 285 6639.

Prime is available only in the USA, I am afraid.

For those of you who missed it, there is a recording of me talking about this range of products. I take lots of them. You don't need to join the relationship marketing program to be a customer for the products. That's another reason I like the company.

6. What's In A Word?

Vicissitudes (usually plural)

Twists and turns (as of Fate); variability; good then bad. It's from the Latin vicis, meaning turn.

There an older word vicissitudinary, meaning liable or given to changing, but I think that would be rather pretentious to use that these days. Pity; another example of lovely old words vanishing in the face of TV-moron mid-Atlantic language.

So, that's all for this week!

Be well; find the sacred in all you do, otherwise don't do it!
